Port Pipavav was India’s first private sector port, promoted by APM Terminals. Situated in Gujarat on the west coast of India, it gets its name from its village. The company gave rgd the mandate for developing its branding, and communication.
The port needed an Identity that flagged its strategic location, reflected its core business and communicated growth and development. During our research process we found that one of the most significant festivals in the area was Makar Sankranti. A kite flying celebration that marks the end of winter and the return of the sun to the Northern Hemisphere, heralding in a season of prosperity.
An extremely popular sporting tradition, the concept of a soaring kite was extremely potent, and resonated locally. A single kite, cleverly anchored with type could also be viewed as the helm of a large berthing ship.
